The $50 Million Moral of the Story

As I sit here belatedly reading the headlines about Heather Mills divorce “settlement” from Sir Paul McCartney and her ongoing rant about wanting the “truth” to come out, I can’t help but consider the absurdity of it all. How can one woman amass a $50 million divorce settlement, plus millions more in child support, just by being married to a man for four years and having a child with him? I mean, I think it’s safe to assume she wasn’t scrubbing toilets in the mansion, changing dirty diapers or hauling the trash out to the curb. Stranger still, despite her windfall and seeming lack of negative commentary by Sir McCartney, Ms. Mills keeps going on about the injustice of it all, and how the things that are being said about her are making her appear crazy, when the fact of the matter is, her outbursts make her look a little nuts or in “PC” terms, unstable. (She might learn a thing or two from ladies like Jennifer Aniston, who artfully keep their dignities in tact during one of the most difficult times in life.)

So, what is the moral of this debacle of a divorce story? Perhaps there are several:

  1. Marry an extremely wealthy man in the United Kingdom, have a child and get divorced after four years.
  2. Keep a reign on your emotions and mouth shut in the presence of the Press and paparazzi.
  3. Accept the $100 million settlement instead of going to court, where you may only receive a $50 million judgment, do not pass go, and take the money and run.

We should all be so lucky!
