Weekly Divorce Tip: Making the Decision to Divorce

If you completed the tasks we suggested in our last two weekly divorce tips (Pre-Divorce Research and Pre-Divorce Financial Planning), it’s time to make an educated decision about whether you should get divorced. Intellectually, this sounds like a simple thing to do however, as you probably already know, emotionally, it can be excruciating. So, if you are on the fence or having doubts about whether you should pull the plug, do whatever it is that will bring clarity into your life. Talk to a trusted friend and/or therapist, journal your thoughts (then tear up the pages when you’re finished) or read any books that will help you to make a decision, like Mira Kirshenbaum’s Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay: A Step-by-Step Guide to Help You Decide Whether to Stay in or Get Out of your Relationship.

Although this may not be a simple task to perform, it is essential. Spend this week searching your soul for the answer. Then, once you’ve found it, commit to it wholeheartedly and refrain from questioning or doubting your decision. Once you make the decision you will be able to move forward in the direction that is best for you.

This is not legal advice. You should consult an attorney if you have legal questions that relate to your specific divorce. Technorati Tags:
