A Deadly Divorce
More than 14 months after the disappearance of Nina Reiser, her estranged husband, Hans Reiser’s murder trial commenced in an Alameda, California courtroom today. “Nina Reiser, 31, disappeared after dropping off the couple’s two children at Hans Reiser’s home on Exeter Drive in Oakland’s Montclair District Sept. 3, 2006. The Reisers married in 1999, but separated in May 2004 and were undergoing contentious divorce proceedings at the time she disappeared. The divorce, however, wasn’t finalized.”
“In October 2006, prosecutors charged Hans Reiser, 43, with murdering her, after Oakland police said they found biological and trace evidence suggesting that Nina Reiser was dead, as well as blood evidence tying her husband to her death. He’s being held in custody without bail.” According to Nina Reiser’s divorce documents, her husband was “like one of those dogs with lock jaw, he never let go.”
This murder trial falls on the heels of the disappearances of countless women across the United States, shortly after they filed for divorce or child custody of their minor children. These cases are tragic and must serve as a reminder to women who are in abusive relationships. Please, be very careful if you are separated, divorced or facing divorce. Contact a domestic violence coalition in your area and ask for help ending your abusive or potentially deadly relationship.
