Get Motivated Monday
Ladies, it’s that time again…time to set your daily and weekly divorce goals. Today we’d like to suggest you devote a little attention to your personal property.
If you’re in the pre- to early stages of divorce, work your way through your house, room by room, and create an inventory of everything you see. Itemize the furniture, art, electronics, china, linens, jewelry, collectibles and other pieces of value. Specify when the property was acquired (i.e. before or during marriage), give it an approximate value and note whether or not you’d like to keep it after divorce. Take date stamped photographs of any particularly valuable or sentimental items and attach them to your list.
If you’re in the midst or tail end of divorce and you’ve already prepared an inventory, review it to determine if any asset values have changed. Also, confirm your list accurately reflects the items you’d like to keep, sell or exchange with your husband.
If your divorce is final, review your inventory to confirm that you’ve received all of the assets awarded to you in the divorce. If you haven’t, talk to your lawyer or ex-husband about collecting them.
This article is not legal advice. You should consult an attorney if you have legal questions that relate to your specific divorce.
